ABOUT

Charlotte Austen is a sculptor based in Somerset,
working primarily in bronze and resin, clay and wax.
Her sculptural practice is rooted in the act of capturing
fleeting beautiful moments in nature and for creating
bespoke pieces for private collectors and interiors.
Charlotte is drawn to the symbolism embedded in the
natural world, the ancient languages of signs
that cultures have carried for centuries. Her work
makes those meanings permanent, casting them in
bronze so they can live within a home as something
quietly intentional and meaningful.
Each piece begins with the real world: branches are life-
cast using the lost-wax process, preserving every detail.
Other elements are hand-sculpted in
clay or wax, then cast and finished in the studio. A theatrical
sensibility runs through the work, a deep interest in
how light and shadow animate a sculpture into its
surrounding space and how this can elevate the space
that her pieces occupy.
With a background in theatre, film and window display
fabrication, she is no stranger to large scale installations
and project management. Her past clients have
included huge set pieces for London theatres such as
Shakespeare's Globe, window displays for Dior and
masks for Netflix films.
Charlotte is a graduate of Central Saint Martins, Fine Art Sculpture.
